Spam Filters
Get familiar with e-mail spam filters, what they do and how you can enable them.
An email filter is a software app that runs on a POP3/IMAP server and keeps track of all inbound messages to impede any unrequested ones from reaching a certain mailbox. A few instances of such email messages would be: offers for pills or money, false banking statements or attachments that contain malware sent with the idea to infect your PC. Spam filters normally check the content of an email and in case they come across given keywords or other suspicious content, they either erase the email or forward it to the Junk/Spam folder instead of the Inbox folder. Some web hosting providers combine their own spam filters with up-to-date databases from spam-tracing organizations, so as to ensure higher levels of safety for their clients. Such databases contain patterns, mail server IPs and other information about spam email messages recently detected by these organizations.

Spam Filters in Web Hosting
If you order a
web hosting package from our company and if you use our mail services, you’ll be able to set up spam filtering for any of the email accounts that you set up from the Email Manager section of your Hepsia hosting Control Panel. With only a couple of clicks, you can select between 5 separate safety levels. If you start receiving spam, you can start with the lowest level and then gradually increase the level till you stop receiving spam. We use one of the best and most famous email filters available on the market called SpamAssassin. It ‘scans’ the header section and the body of each and every email that you receive and calculates a spam score, based on which it either deletes a specific email message or permits it to reach your mailbox. Hepsia will also permit you to configure custom email filters and either eliminate unsolicited emails or send them to a 3rd-party email address like spam@domain.com where you can examine them once more later.

Spam Filters in Semi-dedicated Servers
Our
semi-dedicated server packages deliver excellent spam protection ensured by the popular SpamAssassin spam filter, which ranks all incoming emails based on a spam score in accordance with parameters and patterns, such as the frequency of certain keywords, the sender, the subject, etc. When you enable the filter for any mailbox through the Hepsia Control Panel’s Email Manager section, you can select between 5 different levels of protection – from very low to very high. If you still get junk emails, you can increase the level, or if genuine email messages are labeled as spam, you can lower it. Enabling or disabling the spam protection takes as little as 2 mouse clicks and you can select if the filtered email messages should be erased instantaneously or if they should be redirected to a chosen email account where you can view them later, so as to make sure that the email messages that you need won’t disappear.
